Anyone else look tired all the time, even when you got a solid 8 hours of sleep in and are most certainly, not tired?!  Okay good – glad it isn’t just me 😉  Chasing my 2 and 3 year olds takes a lot of energy lol.

Not to worry!  I’ve got some simple tips for you so that you can look bright eyed and bushy tailed.  Small, tired eyes can make us look a little, ahem, less youthful but with a few skincare and makeup tweaks, we can fool everyone without driving through the Starbucks line – again.

How to Make Eyes Appear More Awake

Cover up dark under eye circles.

Dark under eye circles make eyes appear tired so let’s work on covering them up.

Concealer is your “make me look awake” best friend, along with a good illuminator.  Concealers literally cover up discoloration you are trying to hide, while an illuminator reflects light to make the under eye area look brighter.

Brighten lower lash line and inner corners.

Applying a white or nude shade to the lower lash line can make eyes appear larger and more awake.  I have smaller eyes so I love makeup tricks that make them appear more open!

Try a shadow (such as Snow or Candlelight ShadowSense) or liner on the lower waterline of your eyes to open your eyes more and enhance that “I’m awake, I promise!” look.  You can also add in a light shimmery shadow or illuminator to the inner corners of your eyes to enhance that bright, fun youthful look.

Apply mascara.

Don’t skip the mascara if you are trying to look more awake!  Accentuating your lashes frames your eyes, makes them look bigger and less tired, and is just plain fun.

Define brows.

Eyebrows also frame the eyes, so making sure they are defined and groomed will help make the entire eye area stand out. Fill brows with a liquid color, pencil, or shadow – whatever you prefer!  Then, highlight right under the brow bone with the same illuminator you used on the inner eye corner for a more lifted brow and in turn, appearance of a larger eye.

Swap Black Liner for Black-Brown.

I totally used to love thick black liner, but it really makes your eyes look smaller. If you are trying to make your eyes look more awake, try a dark brown or a black-brown color instead!  Use a very thin eyeliner brush to draw as close to the lash line as possible.

Use anti-aging skincare to protect the delicate eye area!

Makeup is fantastic for covering up those under eye circles, but there are some great skincare products out there that will actually work to diminish the appearance or darkness and wrinkles over time!  Here are some faves to try out:
